This is Serbia, IX-X 2009

I've photographed the frescoes and iconography of Miloje Milinkovic since 1995. Earlier this year, I photographed his work in the Midwest and Southern California. Last year, he suggested it was time to come to Serbia to visit him and continue the project. In September 2009, I did.

Since the California Gold Rush in the 1850s, many have flocked to California to claim their fortunes gold mining. Among those coming to work the mines here in Jackson were many from Italy and Serbia.

A major Serbian legacy in Jackson, was the founding of St. Sava Church, the western hemisphere's first Serbian Orthodox Church by Father Sebastian Dabovich.

During my jorney to Serbia, i was treated like a visiting dignatary thanks to Miloje and his many friends. We went many places including Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. To say the least the trip was fantastic, food great and the people wonderful.

Here are a few of the photos.
